41st Annual Showcase Photo courtesy of Audra’s Bridal Gallery Weddings and special events have many elements in common, an elegant or outdoor setting, beautiful clothing, delicious food, fun music and a photographer to capture those special memories. Saturday, January 6th brides to be and their grooms will have the opportunity to visit with the areas finest wedding purveyors, sample delicious food and view the fashion shows at noon and 3 p.m. Sally Samuelsen Wharton, the Bridal Showcase Coordinator looks forward to the event every year. Now in its 41st year the Bridal Showcase was started by her boss at the time, Ben Blumenthal. At the time Wharton was a buyer for Blumenthals , a high end womens specialty store in downtown Rapid City. Bridal was one of her favorite areas in the store and after Ben retired and closed the store Sally took over the operation of the showcase and expanded it from 8 businesses to the more than 60 that participate today. The Bridal Showcase is the largest bridal show in the state and gives couples the opportunity to meet with professionals in the industry who can help make their event planning go smoothly. The show isn’t only for brides and their mothers. Couples are encouraged to attend the event as well. “Having the groom attend with the bride to be is helpful to the couples” says Wharton “because they are able to share in the excitement of the day.” Thousands of dollars of prizes are given away each year at the Bridal Showcase including four $1,000 bridal packages and a white gold diamond pendant from Riddles. Not to be excluded the grooms can register for prizes as well including a 39” LED HD Smart Screen TV, an overnight stay in a premier room or tickets to the Old Dominion concert from the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Attendees register at the door and must register prior to the fashion shows. Couples on average spend between $20,040 and $33,400 on their wedding. The average cost of a wedding in the United States is $26,720. Fortunately for brides in the Black Hills the scenery of our area gives couples many options for a memorable event without breaking the bank. It doesn’t matter whether the bride and groom prefer an elegant or an outdoorsy wedding, vendors at the Bridal Showcase will be able to offer advice and answer questions to customize their special day. The 41st Annual Bridal Showcase takes place on Saturday, January 6th at the Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5.00.
