What is NIE?
Getting acquainted with the newspaper reading helps prepare students for life. That's where the Rapid City Journal Newspaper in Education program comes into action
This innovative program provides more than 500 classrooms and tens of thousands of students in the Black Hills area newspapers, at no cost to the school. The newspaper is the most up-to-date textbook available. A new "textbook" is printed each and every day. Besides current events, the Rapid City Journal helps students learn a variety of subjects, from math to science and geography and because it's a different kind of textbook, it makes learning fun.
A recent study by the Newspaper Association of America Foundation found that students enrolled in schools that participate in NIE score approximately 10 percent better on standardized tests in comparison to students that are not able to utilize this program.
