Rapid City police officers on Wednesday morning arrested a naked woman who may have been high on synthetic drugs after she called 911 from a rooftop to say she wanted to fly.
At 1:53 a.m., dispatch received a call from a woman who had climbed to the top of the building at 601 12th Street, which houses Computer Village. The woman said she wanted to try to fly but was afraid, said police spokeswoman Tarah Heupel.
Officers found Jennifer Hanson, 20, of Rapid City, walking along Kansas City Street with no clothes; they found some of her clothing on top of the building.
Officers arrested Hanson for probation violation and possession of marijuana, Heupel said. Police have noticed that many synthetic drug users strip off their clothes under the influence of the drugs and are investigating what drugs Hanson was using at the time of her arrest, Heupel said.
This week’s nudity wasn’t confined to Rapid City. At 11:19 a.m. Monday, Box Elder police responded to calls reporting a naked woman walking westbound on the side of County Highway 1416 near Commercial Gate Drive, said Box Elder Police Chief Chris Misselt.
The 26-year-old woman had tried to get in several vehicles before police arrived to take her to Rapid City Regional Hospital, Misselt said. She was not arrested, but police are investigating whether she had been taking synthetic drugs at the time, he said.
The woman created a potential traffic hazard as she attracted attention from drivers leaving Ellsworth Air Force Base for lunch, Misselt said.
“We don’t get too many reports of naked people on Monday during the lunch hour,” he said.
Some synthetic drugs cause excited delirium, where the user’s body heats up and he or she strips off clothing to cool down, Misselt said.
