SPEARFISH - The Black Hills State University rodeo, which was last weekend, was dedicated to Will Lantis, a strong supporter of BHSU rodeo.

The annual rodeo will be permanently renamed the BHSU Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede Rodeo.

President Kay Schallenkamp presented the Lantis family with a plaque and unveiled a new permanent sign at the arena which says, "Home of the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede Rodeo."

Lantis died in August in a vehicle accident. He was president of Lantis Enterprises, a family-owned company that operates assisted-living and long-term health-care facilities in Montana, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

He is remembered as a great American cowboy who fulfilled a dream when he built and operated Seven Down Arenas.

The Lantis family provides great support to the BHSU Rodeo Team through the generous use of the Seven Down Arenas facilities according to Robin Temple, one of the rodeo club advisors. She added that the Rodeo Team would not be possible without this generosity.

During the dedication announcement, the rodeo announcer, Darren Moore, read a tribute to Will stating that it gave Will great pride to see the Yellow Jacket rodeo team grow and succeed.
