Norway choir

Norway’s Boys Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, 700 44th St.

The choir, from Nidaros Cathedral, has performed in Moscow, London, Paris and Berlin. Refreshments will be served following the concert, which is hosted by Sons of Norway. A freewill offering will be taken.

Church car show

Canyon Lake United Methodist Church will host its annual car show on Sunday, June 15, for Father’s Day. People are invited to bring their special cars to display from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the upper level parking lot of the church. There are no fees.

Black Hawk block party

The Black Hawk Community Church, 5118 Mill Road in Black Hawk will hold a block party with the John Denley Band beginning at noon on Saturday, June 14.

This event also includes a free clinic with tips and tricks for musicians, instrument repair, food, music and fun games for kids.  A concert will be at 7 p.m. For more information, call 787-4335.

Chapel services

The Rochford Chapel will hold services at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15. Officiating will be the Rev. Fred Hallstrom, a retired ELCA Lutheran pastor from Hill City. Fellowship will follow the service.

Singing group

Foothills Community Baptist Church will host the Johnson Family singing group at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14. The Johnson Family is known for its youthful energy and enthusiasm. The concert is free; an offering will be taken to help the Johnson Family’s ministry.

Youth Chorale concert

The Youth Chorale of the Wisconsin Children’s Choir from Madison, Wis., will present a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at First Presbyterian Church, 710 Kansas City St. The concert is part of the group’s 2008 tour of the north-central states.

The Youth Chorale is an ensemble of high school and advanced middle school choristers with performance experience and developed musical skills. Group members are able to perform choral literature featuring four and more parts.

Gift of Grace retreat

Gift of Grace Ministries will present its first annual retreat for women, “Overcoming the Daily Grind,” Aug. 21-23 at Kamp Kinship, 12145 Paha Sapa Road in Deadwood. Pre-retreat activities are at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, with the official retreat starting Friday, Aug. 22.

The weekend will feature food, fun and fellowship. Participants will “escape the daily hustle and bustle of life to experience rest and build relationships in Christ, and discover how we have been uniquely equipped to “overcome the daily grind” of life,” according to a news release.

The weekend will include speakers, inspirational music, activities and time for rest. The camp offers a private lake, hiking trails, paddle boats, bonfire pits and other outdoor sporting activities.

Keynote speaker will be Connie Karn, who serves on the Christian Counseling team of Christian Life Ministries in Rapid City.

Chapel designation

The Chapel in the Hills in Rapid City has been designated as a “Partnership Ministry” by the South Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The action was taken at the recent Assembly of the Synod held in Sioux Falls and gives the chapel an official recognition of its ministry. The synod consists of 253 congregations in South Dakota.

The Chapel in the Hills was built in 1969 by Arndt Dahl, a benefactor of the Dahl Arts Center. It was originally a home for “Lutheran Vespers,” a radio ministry. Its work has expanded to include worship services each night during the tourism season and weddings. A new “Prayer Walk” in the woods for prayer and meditation will be dedicated Sunday, July 27.

Healing talk

Kevin G. Graunke will present a talk titled “The Certainty of Christian Science Healing” at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Canyon Lake Park, shelter three. There will be refreshments and child care available.

Graunke is a full-time prayer-based healer using the Christian Science system of healing, according to a news release. He will explain how prayer can be a certain and reliable healing method. During his talk, Graunke will draw on ideas from the Bible and from “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy.
