The Black Hills has some frightening experiences in store this Halloween season.
Here are some seasonal scares:
Black Hills Storytellers ghost stories: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Adams Museum, 54 Sherman St. in Deadwood. Call 578-1928. Admission: by donation; for those in high school or older.
Chamber Crypt Haunted House, Sturgis: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, and Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27, and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 1073 Main St. in Sturgis. Zombie Walk at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, starting in the lot next to Loud American Roadhouse.
Deadweird: Oct. 26-27 in Deadwood. Monster Ball at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Buffalo-Bodega. Costume contest Saturday, Oct. 27, with $8,000 in prizes. Judging from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Franklin Hotel; winners announced at 10 p.m. Prizes for first, second, third, best group, scariest, sexiest and funniest.
Haunted Mine: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Oct. 28, and Wednesday, Oct. 31, Black Hills Mining Museum, 323 W. Main St. in Lead. Admission: $5. Call 584-1605.
Kidweird: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Deadwood Pavilion, with trick-or-treating, games with prizes, a haunted house and a costume contest. Admission: donation of canned food.
“Paranormal Investigation Tours of the Historic Adams House”: Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27, at 22 Van Buren Ave. in Deadwood. Tours at 6 p.m., 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight. Admission: $20 for members or $25 for nonmembers; must be at least 16. Reservations required; call 578-3724.
Family Fall Blast, Sturgis: Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sturgis Community Center - there will be five large inflatables, free family portraits, carnival booths and candy for every child. The event is sponsored by Sturgis Wesleyan Church. They are asking that local businesses/organizations consider partnering by offering a carnival booth or contributing to the candy collection.
Belle Fourche Halloween Parade: The downtown afternoon parade for the younger set will run from Pete's Clothing Wednesday, Oct. 31, east on State Street to Rail Park. It's sponsored by the Center of the Nation Business Association. Attendance varies by weather conditions, but it has run into the hundreds as youngsters of all ages march, are carried or wheeled to the costume competition judging.
Belle Fourche Area Community Center Halloween Carnival: The carnival offers an option or an addition to door-to-door treks for the younger set - again often depending on weather conditions.
This year's 12th annual event runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. About 600 youngsters are expected to take part in various carnival type games, trick or treating from business and organization booths. A costume contest is also on the evening's schedule.
Spearfish Fall Festival: The festival will feature a youth and family carnival from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 at the Sturgis Recreation Center with games, candy and prizes. Tickets are 50 cents each or 24 tickets for $10.
Spearfish Community Zombie Walk: Meet at Spearfish City Park at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, for a Zombie Parade through the streets of Spearfish.
Spearfish Monster Mash: This teens only event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Spearfish Rec Center will feature a monster movie, games, costume contest. Youth in grades sixth through 12th are welcome. Cost is $5 per person.
Spooky Spearfish: This event sponsored by Hot 93.1/Magic 93.9, will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Spearfish Rec Center.
Haunted House: The Spearfish Ambulance Service is hosting a haunted house from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26; 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the Spearfish Rec Center. Cost is $1 with proceeds going to the Ambulance Explorer program.
