Dancers of all ages will have an opportunity to participate with instructors from New York, Oklahoma and Arizona when the Dance Network of South Dakota holds its 32nd annual workshop at the Spearfish Holiday Inn Convention Center Friday, Oct. 25, through Sunday, Oct. 27.
Usually not held West River, the network is supported in part by the South Dakota Arts Council.
Participants from across South Dakota as well as Wyoming, Nebraska, North Dakota, Montana and Iowa will take part in classes in tap, ballet, modern, hip-hop, flamenco and musical theater over the three-day event. Classes for beginners (ages 8-11), intermediate (ages 11-14) and advanced (ages 14-adults) have been scheduled.
Registration begins Friday, Oct 25, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the cost for the three-day event is $85. A single class can be attended for $25.
A Saturday night flamenco performance by attendees will be followed by a $5 dessert bar that will begin at 7:30 p.m. Guest faculty member Chris Burton Jacome, who has a degree in classical-guitar performance and who has won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest World category for two years in a row, will perform. The show is $10. A question-and-answer session will follow the performance.
There will be instruction on Saturday and Sunday for dance teachers that will focus on “Through the Lens of Business,” with guest speaker Priscilla Romkema and “Physical Therapy for the Dancer” by Ruth Scott.
