Alex Penner will have more time to work on his cheesecake recipe. The CHL suspended Penner indefinitely after a line brawl between the Allen Americans and Fort Worth Brahmas last week. There were a couple of 1-game suspensions, along with a lot of players and coaching staff members from both teams fined as well, but Penner's suspension goes through the regular season and playoffs and he'll need to cleared by a review panel if he wants to play in the CHL in the future. The Rush back in January traded Penner to the Amerks for Nino Musitelli, who never set skate in Rapid City, choosing instead to forge a deal with an ECHL team. So this whole deal has just gone down swimmingly for all involved.
Also, the CHL announced a 1-game suspension for Quad City's Jason Kostadine after a blindside hit on Rush leading scorer Damian Surma Tuesday night. Kostadine will sit for Thursday's game between Quad City and Bloomington.
Neither Surma nor Dan Gendur, injured in a separate incident, made the trip with the Rush to Arizona for this weekend's series, but I'm hearing that both should be ready to return to action in time to head for Denver for Tuesday's game with the Cutthroats. So that's some good news.
