The Rush played another strong game Friday night and this time were rewarded with a win. Rapid City held Arizona to 19 shots and also limited their penalties to down the Sundogs 2-1 Friday night in Prescott Valley, Arizona.
Jeff Lee and Jarrett Konkle scored for Rapid City and Tim Boron stopped 18 of 19 to improve to 8-4-1 for Rapid City, 10-7-4 and maintaining fourth place in the Berry Conference standings.
Pascal Morency scored the lone goal for Arizona and Adam Russo stopped 31 of 33 shots for the Sundogs, 9-10-3.
Friday was also a good news, bad news day for the Rush on the injury front. Jordan Baker came off the IR for his first game since Nov. 17, but that only made room for defenseman Jamie VanderVeeken, who has been in IR limbo since suffering a lower body injury in his first game back with Rapid City a week ago. The Rush didn't have a spot for Jamie on the IR, so he remained on the roster.
Both Arizona and Rapid City skated shorthanded because of suspensions. Justoin Sawyer served the second of his four-game suspension Friday night as did Arizona's Kyle Hood.
Veeks is on the 14-day IR now, but I'm told the expected recovery time for the injury is longer than that. D-man Michael Couch, on the 7-day IR, also made the trip south and could be activated soon as well.
