Former BYU and NFL All-Pro kick returner Vai Sikahema is enjoying his vacation in the Black Hills as he, his family and the families of two friends are celebrating the 30th anniversary of being a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rapid City.
Many college football and NFL fans remember Sikahema as one of the top kick returners in the game in the mid 1980s and early 1990s.
Sikahema, however, has a little more going that you might not know.
Challenged to a celebrity boxing match by former baseball player Jose Canseco, Sikahema promptly knocked Canseco out in the first round. As it turned out, Sikahema had a little amateur boxing background in his younger days and Canseco was known for, well, a few home runs, using steroids, rating on other steroid users and having a baseball bounce off his head over the outfield fence for a home run.
Canseco evidently doesn't take hits to the head well.
Sikahema's wife, Keala, also has somewhat of a famous nephew in Jon Heder, or Napoleon Dynamite to you and me.
“I guess I do have a few little oddities in my life,” Sikahema said with a smile.
Oddity yes, but there's nothing wrong with making Jose Canseco see a few stars.
