Douglas High School senior running back Aaron Murphy breaks away for a large gain against Rapid City Central High School during the first football game of the Rushmore Bowl at O’Harra Stadium Friday night.

I just want to say bravo to the Douglas football team and head coach Dan Maciejczak for their 3-0 start, which included a big 35-19 win over Class 11AAA Rapid City Central in the Rushmore Bowl.

It wasn't too long ago (after the glory years of the 80s and 90s under Coach Dave Broadie) that such a result would have been unthinkable. Douglas was pretty down before Maciejczak took over in 2010 and it's always fun to see a group of young men realize what it takes to turn things around and then execute on that vision.

It's going to be fun to see how they handle this success with two big games against Hot Springs and STM coming over the next two weeks. No matter what, you can be sure that they're going to compete.

And that's the most important thing.
