Lemmon Livestock will hold a rollover auction at noon Jan. 9 to raise funds for the lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture's rule allowing older Canadian cattle into the country.

The lawsuit has been brought by R-CALF USA, the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and nine other plaintiffs.

The intent of the lawsuit is to stop the importation from Canada of cattle infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy, according to a Stockgrowers news release.

Several members of the Stockgrowers Association plan to attend the Lemmon auction.

In a rollover auction those who wish to support the lawsuit can bid on a calf, or cow, and then donate the animal back so it can be auctioned off again and again.

More than $70,000 for the effort has been raised through various livestock auction markets in South Dakota.
