Never fear, lovers of Flintstones Bedrock City in Custer: The home of the Flintstone family of cartoon fame isn't closing, despite the rumors circling like vultures above a sick brontosaurus.

The tourist attraction was up for sale last fall, but it has since been taken off the market, said Greg Gunderson, general manager of the theme park and campground.

"Ever since then, all these wild rumors are going around," he said. "Kind of a bummer on our end."

Fred and Barney had no additional comment.

Simply Service branch set for Whitewood

Simply Service Federal Credit Union will open a new branch in Whitewood by Dec. 1.

"It is going to be a full-service branch," said Walt Reinert, a loan and collection officer at the credit union's Sturgis branch. "The hours are going to be flexible, depending on the community needs."

The new location will be located at the corner of Sherman and Laurel street. The location will employ three to four people. The credit union will offer full banking services, including loans and a drive-through.

Clogging studio

kicks into gear

New classes begin this month at The Black Hills in Motion Clogging Studio in Rapid City. The studio is under the direction of Kayla Gahagan, a Rapid City Journal employee, who has clogged for 18 years and taught for eight.

"Clogging is fun for people of all ages," Gahagan said. "I've taught people from ages 5 to 85."

Gahagan began directing the Country Rockin' Cloggers dance studio in Wyoming in 2000. She has since choreographed for the Northwest College Civic Orchestra and taught at the University of Montana. She was a member of the 2001 Spain Dance World Festival U.S. team and has performed at the National Clogging Convention multiple times. She's led clogging teams in Montana, Michigan and Wyoming and has also competed and/or performed in 10 different states.

"I'm really excited to be teaching and performing again and I look forward to expanding the studio as we grow," she said. "I'm hoping to provide the community with a clogging studio that promotes the preservation of traditional clogging, while offering the latest in modern clogging."

The BHM studio is at the Garfield Arts Center at 925 Dilger Ave. For more information, call 430-5475.
