Certified: Casey Peterson & Associates, the Rapid City accounting and financial adviser firm, announced Jennifer Rice has become a Certified Public Accountant. Rice, an in-charge auditor, has been with the firm for one year. She is a graduate of Black Hills State University.

Named: Two attorneys from the Rapid City office of Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun have been recognized in Great Plains Super Lawyers in conjunction with the Minnesota Law and Politics magazine. Tom Fritz was named in the business litigation category and Haven Stuck was named in the real estate category. In all, six attorneys from Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun were selected as Super Lawyers. Just 5 percent of all attorneys in South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska were named.

Honored: Ace Steel and Recycling of Rapid City received the Local Champion Award from South Dakota Solid Waste Management Association during the 2007 Solid Waste Conference and Trade Show. The company was honored for its work to lobby for legislation fostering the growth of recycling in South Dakota. … The South Dakota Division of Parks and Recreation recently recognized several individuals for their work in the state parks system. Chad Kremer won the Award of Appreciation. Kremer, the buffalo herd manager at Custer State Park, was recognized for the role he played in bringing the 2007 International Bison Conference to Rapid City and Custer State Park. Lynn Spomer, Pierre, was named the 2007 South Dakota State Parks Employee of the Year. … Doug Weber, director of operations for South Dakota's state prison system, recently received the Satnan-Canary Award from the South Dakota Corrections Association. Weber began his career with the Department of Corrections in 1981 as a correctional officer at the South Dakota State Penitentiary. He became warden of the penitentiary in 1996 and chief warden of all adult institutions in 1999. In addition, Kristi Bunkers, director of juvenile community corrections, was named the Outstanding SDCA member for 2007. She was honored for her work with juvenile offenders.

Completed: Karla Pedersen of Financial Markets Inc. in Rapid City has completed two required courses of the Life Office Management Association to earn a Customer Service Representative-1 designation. She is working toward a Fellow Life Management Institute designation, a 10-course professional development program that provides comprehensive training in the insurance and financial services industry.

Installed: The Cosmopolitan Club of Rapid City recently installed new officers for 2007-08. They are Frank Morrison, outgoing president; Steve Ferley, sergeant of arms; Bill Keck, vice president; Bernie Roth, president; and Susan Rodriguez, secretary. The club co-sponsors the Black Hills Sport Show & Sale and does other fund-raising efforts for diabetes research and local youth groups.

Staff honors: The Western South Dakota Juvenile Services center announced that Jan Martina was the employee of the month for September. She began her career with the center as a control room operator in June 2006.

Top sales: Edward Heisinger was the September agent of the month for the month at the James Financial Group and Northwestern Mutual. … Riley McManigal has been named agent of the month for September at Exit Realty The Benchmark Co. of Rapid City. … The top producer at Century 21 Dakota Belle real estate in Belle Fourche for September was Renee' Bisgaard, broker associate. … The top producer for the Real Estate Center of Spearfish in September was Sue Cramer. … The top producer at Raben Real Estate for September was Velda Gunderson. … Century 21 Spearfish Realty named Scot Munro its top producer for September. … RE/MAX Realtors in Rapid City named Karen Soderquist its top producer for September.

Completed: Jeff Rinehart recently attended the Annual Convention for the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers in San Diego. During this weeklong convention, he completed workshops on high-end handcrafted wall coverings, commercial installations, new products and techniques. Rinehart is the only member of the organization in western South Dakota and has been in the wallpaper installation and removal business for 22 years.
