The streets of downtown Deadwood will go back in time and do it in high style during the 23rd annual Kool Deadwood Nites event set for Aug. 24-27.
Car-specific events include the People's Choice Awards and the eighth annual Sock Hop on Thursday; the Deadwood Rod Run on Friday; Classic Car Competition and Black Hills Poker Runs on Saturday; and a parade, show-and-shine and awards presentations on Sunday.
The Classic Car Competition judging runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Days of '76 Event Complex and adjoining Ferguson Field. On Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. each day, there will be a Classic Car Auction at Deadwood Mountain Grand.
Hundreds of classic cars will be on display (and many available for purchase) during the event that began more than 20 years ago as a small auto show and sock hop for classic car lovers but which has not grown into one of downtown Deadwood's busiest and most appreciated events.
In addition to numerous barbecues and parties, free live music is offered each night of the event.
Free live music shows downtown this year include Jay and the Americans at 7 p.m. Thursday; The Classics IV at 8 p.m. Friday; Beatles Britishmania and The Happenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
A shuttle will be available from Akela Spa on U.S. Highway 14A to Deadwood. The service is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
