Firehouse Brewing Theatre is scaring up Halloween thrills and chills. Get in the spooky holiday spirit this weekend as the Firehouse presents the psychological thriller “The Woman in Black.”
Based on a Gothic horror novella, “The Woman in Black” is set in a small English coastal town that harbors a terrible secret. The tale begins when Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor, visits the town to attend a client’s funeral. During the funeral, he catches sight of a woman in black. The mere mention of her terrifies the locals, for she is a ghost who haunts the neighborhood.
Barry Longden, well-known to fans of Firehouse Brewing Theatre, plays Arthur. After the funeral, Arthur reluctantly begins working at the home of his deceased client, Mrs. Drablow, to take care of her estate.
Mrs. Drablow’s home is situated in the middle of a marsh and cut off from the mainland at high tide. After Arthur arrives there, he sorts through his client’s papers. He unearths a box of letters and discovers the dreadful secret about the woman in black — and ultimately pays a terrible price himself.
Suspenseful from beginning to end, “The Woman in Black” eerily weaves in many twists and turns. Like all Firehouse Brewing Theatre productions, the show caters to adults and is not recommended for children.
