Dec. 6 & 13: The Rapid City Arts Council is hosting two holiday concerts in December, from noon to 1 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 13 at the John T. Vucurevich Event Center at the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City. Attendees are invited to bring a friend and their own lunch to the concerts. Dec. 6 will feature the Rapid City New Horizons Band performing seasonal and classic music. On Dec. 13, the Shrine of Democracy Chorus will perform festive barbershop-style music. Cost: Free.
Dec. 9: '50s Sock Hop, Gotta Dance, Rapid City. Get out your poodle skirt and peddle pushers (guys, wear white socks with your pants rolled up) and dance to '50s tunes. Chris Young to perform in Rapid City
Country music star Chris Young will visit Rapid City on his Chris Young Losing Sleep 2018 World Tour. His hits include “Gettin’ You Home,” “Voices,” “Tomorrow,” “I’m Comin’ Over” and “Think Of You.”
A news release from the star's tour says he will perform with Kane Brown and Morgan Evans in Rapid City on May 10 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
Tickets go on sale Dec. 8.
Registration opens for art show
SPEARFISH | Applications are now available for the The Matthews Opera House's 39th Winter Art Show.
Applications are available in the art gallery or online. Patrons can be professional or amateur, ages pre-kindergarten and up. There is no geographical requirement to enter the show.
The dates for artists to register their work, with the completed application, is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 10-13. Fees vary depending on age group.
The 39th Winter Art Show takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 17-25 in the art gallery.
Armchair Travelers Book Club
For their Thursday, Dec. 7, meeting, the Armchair Travelers are asking attendees to read any and all books about food (not necessarily cookbooks, but possibly). Need inspiration? The library has a display of possible good reads.
Armchair Travelers is an open-to-all book club for any interested readers. It meets at noon on the first Thursday of nearly every month at the Sturgis Public Library's Lushbough Room to discuss books on a predetermined theme.
