With the joyful sounds of Christmas programs and the peaceful chants of Taize prayer, Christians around the Black Hills are celebrating the coming of the Christ child.

At Keystone Congregational United Church of Christ, the annual children's Christmas program, complete with Nativity costumes, was performed last week in one of the oldest churches in the Black Hills. And on the final Sunday of Advent, a Christmas Taize prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. at the chapel at Terra Sancta.

All of the concerts, cantatas and children's programs will culminate on Monday and Tuesday with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services at area churches. At Keystone UCC, the Eposti family will light the Christ candle at Christmas Eve services, and the congregation will fill the 116-year-old sanctuary with verses of "Silent Night, Holy Night," a scene that will be repeated in churches everywhere on Dec. 24.
