Firefighter fundraiser

In acknowledgement of Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-11), Nemo Community Church will sponsor a chili feed, with live music, on Saturday, Oct. 4. Chili with all the trimmings, and homemade desserts will be served from 4 p.m. to

7 p.m. at Nemo Community Hall.

There will be no charge, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds from the benefit will be divided between the Nemo, Brownsville and Doty fire departments.

In addition, the Foggy Bottom Boys will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The five-member group specializes in a mix of bluegrass, western, gospel and folk music.

Marriage Matters

Catholic Social Services will hold a one-day workshop, "Marriage Matters," from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Our Lady of the Black Hills Church in Piedmont. The workshop focuses on developing communication skills for a strong and loving Christian marriage.

Free 2 B Me conference

A "Free 2 B Me" Women's Conference will be Saturday, Nov. 1, at Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn in Rapid City. The event is sponsored by A Heart for the Kingdom, a local radio ministry. Pam Johnson and Patty Rae Collins will lead the event.

Financial program

First Assembly of God, 4905 S. Highway 16, is sponsoring Financial Peace University, a 13-week program taught by David Ramsey, that helps families positively change their financial future. Classes will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.

Newcomers class

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 910 Soo San Drive in Rapid City, is beginning at newcomers class at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the church. Classes will continue Oct. 12 and Oct. 19. New members will be received Oct. 26.

The class will be taught by the Rev. Kathy Monson Lutes and will include information about being an Episcopalian and about the parish of St. Andrew's. All are welcome to attend.
