Catholic Daughters

Rummage sale

The Women's Fellowship of First Congregational Church, 1200 Clark St., will hold a spring rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 14, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 15. Proceeds support the Women's Fellowship and its outreach projects.

Salad luncheon

The Tuesday Ladies Salad Luncheon will meet at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Kansas City St. Guest speaker is Stephanie Lehmann. Cost of the luncheon is $3 or bring a salad to share. For more information, call 342-9302.

Ham dinner

Rapid Valley United Methodist Church will hold a Palm Sunday Ham Dinner from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at 5103 Longview Drive. Cost is $20 per family (4-6 people), $5 for adults age 55 and older, $7 for people ages 5-54, and free for children age 4 and younger.

Artist celebration

ACC, Artists Celebrating Christ, an interdenominational event uniting Christian artisans from across North Dakota and the Upper Midwest, will be March 13-15 at the University of Mary's Benedictine Center in Bismarck, N.D. There will be a juried art show, student art entries, a banner and sanctuary art display and musical performances.

Proceeds from the event will benefit "Charles Hall Youth Services" for at-risk teens. Donations up to $500 will be matched with a Care Abounds matching grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Special singer

Bruce Brown, a professor of voice at Simpson College in Indianola, Ind., will give a solo performance at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday, March 9, service at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church. Simpson's professional experience includes performing as a principal at the VolksOper in Vienna, Austria.

Spring bazaar

Sturgis United Methodist Women are sponsoring a Spring Bazaar and Smorgasbord from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Sturgis United Methodist Church, 1755 Ballpark Road, in Sturgis.

Items for sale at the bazaar include Easter and spring crafts, baked goods and white elephant items. A pie shop will be set up, as will games for the younger children.

The smorgasbord is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Menu items include lasagna, Swedish meat balls, taco salad, pasties, chop suey, chicken enchiladas and a variety of other dishes, salads and desserts. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children sixth grade and younger.

Roast beef dinner

St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 141 Siever St. in Lead, will hold its annual roast beef dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at the church. Along with the main course, a salad and dessert bar is included.

Easter egg hunt

Black Hawk Community Church, 5119 Mill Road, will hold its annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 22. Children ages 5-8 will hunt for eggs at 9 a.m., and children ages 1-4 will hunt at 10 a.m. All are welcome to enjoy refreshments while the children participate.

Business meeting

Members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in western South Dakota will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City for their annual business meeting.

There are more than 11,000 members in the 32 ELCA congregations in western South Dakota. They work together as the Bear Butte Conference.

At the conference, church members will consider a budget and elect people to serve on ministry boards and as voting members of the 2009 national church assembly. Several reports will be presented and a number of resolutions will be considered.The conference assembly will be preceded by a reception honoring four area pastors who are retiring in 2008: the Revs. Bruce Baum of Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City, Chuck Hazlett of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hermosa, Evelyn Johnson of Hill City and Larry Peterson of Pine Ridge. The reception begins at 3:30 p.m.

The reception and assembly are open to the public. Calvary Lutheran Church is at 5311 Sheridan Lake Road (near the intersection with Catron Boulevard).

Lenten drama

Witnesses that will be called for the final program of "The State vs. the King of the Jews," a courtroom drama series being performed at South Canyon Lutheran Church, are Martha, sister of Lazarus and follower of Jesus, Joseph of Arimathea, Pharisee and secret follower of Jesus, and Jesus of Nazareth, the defendant.

The service is at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, followed by a soup supper at 6:15 p.m.

There is also a weekly Lenten service that begins at 12:10 p.m., followed by soup in the Koinonia Room. The community is invited. The church is at 700 44th St.

Easter egg hunt

Atonement Lutheran Church, 605 Auburn Hills Drive, will host an Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 15, for children ages 12 and under.

Silent auction

Open Bible Christian Center Academy, 2225 E. St. Patrick St., will hold a silent auction from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15. Proceeds benefit the academy.
