The St. Patrick Day's parade in Deadwood will go on as scheduled, even though the festive green holiday falls on the Monday of Holy Week.
The Rev. Kerry Prendiville, priest for both St. Patrick's Church in Lead and St. Ambrose in Deadwood, said the church did not ask that the annual parade be rescheduled. It may have been a different story, however, if the holiday was scheduled to fall later in the week. "I don't appreciate things like that during the Tridium: Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Holy Week," he said.
Prendiville and his congregations will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with its annual dinner on Sunday, which will include a barbershop quartet and Irish music.
Sharon Zeller of the Diocese of Rapid City said there were no directives from the diocese about local St. Patrick's Day events.
Mass on Monday will follow Holy Week liturgy rather than that of St. Patrick's Day. Otherwise, local Irish Catholics are welcome to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on Monday.
