Christmas just isn’t the same without all those wonderful smells: pine sap, peppermint candy canes, cinnamon sweets baking in the oven, and of course, chestnuts roasting on an open fire. These simple DIY projects will make your home smell warm and inviting for your Christmas party.
Christmas Simmer Pot
A simmer pot is the easiest way to fill your home with wonderful Christmas smells using ingredients you likely have on hand. Simply fill a saucepan with boiling water, and add classic Christmas scents. Blend cinnamon sticks, sliced apples, cranberries, and orange peels for a nostalgic, aromatic blend, or try pine branches and nutmeg for a muskier scent. Rosemary, myrrh, peppermint, clove, ginger, anise and frankincense are great additions to any simmer pot. You can add additional water to the pot as needed, and simmer two days.
Fragrant Orange Peel Garland
Use small Christmas cookie cutters to slice orange peels into snowflakes and gingerbread men, then pierce the peels with cloves, and string together. This festive garland will fill your home with a classic Christmas scent.
Simple Sage Wreath
Buy a simple foam wreath from your local craft store, then tie or hot glue bundles of sage around it. The fresh sage will give off an inviting scent the minute guests knock on your door.
