DEADWOOD -- Deadwood city commissioners are conducting interviews this week to fill a vacancy for the city's zoning administrator.
Interviews with five prospective candidates are set for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in city hall. There were 37 applicants for the position.
The vacancy occurred with previous zoning administrator Bernadette Williams passed away in late 2009. Deanna Berglund is handling the administrator duties on an interim basis.
Commissioners will likely have a quorum at each interview session, but no votes are planned during the interviews.
In other city news, commissioners approved a reduction in a snow removal bill for Susan D'Aniello at 322 Williams Street. She said it takes one person 20 minutes to shovel snow, but when city officials did the work because the walk was unshoveled and out of compliance, they sent two men and charged her for two hours at $71.50 per hour.
Commissioners voted to reduce the bill by $71.50.
Commissioners also voted to approve a conditional use permit for the Northern Hills Alliance for Children to start a daycare facility at 751 Main Street. The non-profit organization hopes to house 60 children from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning in June.
Berglund said the daycare providers hope to create a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week operation. This would require a new zoning designation because customers would be having overnight stays.
