Pierre -- South Dakota Department of Transportation officials advise that driving conditions in central South Dakota are dangerous, according to a news release from SDOT.
Specifically, areas along Interstate 90 and nearby highways are experiencing heavy, intermittent drifting snow due to high winds.
The drifting snow is causing heavy slush to accumulate and making travel conditions hazardous especially in sheltered areas and at bridge ends.
The department reminds motorists maintenance equipment will be pulled from the highways this evening. Snow and slush may continue to accumulate, making travel conditions difficult during the overnight hours and people are urged to reconsider their travel plans.
People who must travel are advised to slow down and drive with extreme caution. Officials encourage motorists to visit www.safetravelusa.com or call 511 to check the latest road conditions and travel advisories before driving.
