I found this quote that I feel fits our political environment in Meade County at this time in reference to the recent pay raise our commissioners gave themselves. Thomas Jefferson wrote in his journal in 1787 that "a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing and is necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of the government."
He wrote this at the time that they were attempting to figure out how to make the Articles of Confederation work. It did not take them long to see that they needed to start from scratch and thus began the task of writing our plan of government, aka the Constitution.
Do not be disheartened by our struggles. This is the great part of our form of government. The people can make a difference, but they must come forward.
I fear many Americans choose not to become involved because it takes too much work and they fear making someone angry with hem. I feel recharged everytime I think of this quote. We need to let the Meade County Commission know that what they have done is not acceptable.
