The wife of District 30 senator and gubernatorial candidate Gordon Howie was arrested for driving under the influence.
Connie Howie, 59, was arrested at about 1:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 44 near Quick Lane by a Pennington County deputy, according to Lara Roetzel, the Pennington County State’s attorney’s chief deputy.
Roetzel said Connie Howie was under the influence of prescription drugs when she was stopped.
Gordon Howie confirmed his wife’s arrest Monday afternoon.
“My wife took a legal pain medication for a headache on Friday which may have reacted with other prescribed medications,” Gordon Howie said in an email to the Journal. “We are cooperating with the investigation and hope that no charges will be filed.”
Roetzel said her office will make a decision on how to charge Connie Howie in the next two weeks.
Connie Howie was released on a personal recognizance bond. She is scheduled to make her initial court appearance on March 11.
