A lawsuit against the federal government seeks $10 million because a boy allegedly was branded with a hot nail and sexually assaulted by other boys in a tribal detention center.
A complaint filed by the boy's legal guardian says staff at the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe's detention center was negligent and failed to follow procedures. It says the boy who was 12 at the time has endured pain and suffering, medical and mental health expenses, depression and distress because of the actions of two older, bigger boys.
The government has not yet filed its response in court. A spokesman on Monday had no comment.
