Emma H. Baumann

RAPID CITY — Emma H. Baumann, age is a number, and she said hers was “unlisted,” of Rapid City, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

She was born July 13, in Bowdle to Matilda and John Hoffmann. She was raised on a farm near Venturia, N.D., and was educated in the public schools. While in high school, she began her teaching profession by helping teach the elementary children in their local country school. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education from Northern State University.

In August 1949, she married Richard V. Baumann. The couple resided in many locations throughout the years, primarily in Aberdeen. Emma was an elementary school teacher teaching kindergarten for 35+ years. She moved to Rapid City in 1980 and in 1982 began working with her husband and son at Neugebauer’s Fine Jewelry store.

She was a member of Laureate Beta, Red Hats Group, Doll’s Club, and many other organizations. She was active in the church and at the Canyon Lake Senior Citizen Center. Emma enjoyed gardening, antiquing, cooking, and volunteering at various community events and locations. She had a love for her family and friends and always went the extra step to make everyone around her happy.

Survivors include her son, Richard J. Baumann, Rapid City; three grandchildren, Emily Baumann Leech and Michael Baumann, both of Rapid City, and Brooke Baumann, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Reuben Hoffmann, Aberdeen; three sisters, Edna Dahlstrom, Hillsboro, N.D., Clara Kost, Ashley, N.D., and Gert Gesinger, Aberdeen. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Burial will be Monday, Nov. 16, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Fred Leland Hilton

OWEN, Wis. — Fred Leland Hilton, 80, Owen, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his children, Diana Wagner, David Hilton and Nyle Hilton; two sisters, Eva Wiltfong and Fern Kursave, Rapid City, S.D.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma.

Private services and burial will take place at a later date.

Jane Wood-McKiney

KEYSTONE — Jane Wood-McKiney, 44, Keystone and formerly of Hulett, Wyo., died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at her home.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels & Crematory Service of Spearfish.

Gordy A. Lyons

WATERTOWN — Gordy A. Lyons, 32, Watertown, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Jessica, one son, Dylan, and one daughter, Coral, all of Watertown; his father, Donald Lyons, Rapid City; his mother, Betty Yexley, one brother, Taylor Yexley, and one sister, Kristen Yexley, all of Littleton, Colo.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. CST today at Crawford Funeral Chapel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. CST Saturday, Nov. 14, at the chapel.

Doris Mae Pigsley

RAPID CITY — Doris Mae Pigsley, 84, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Golden Livingcenter Bella Vista.

Survivors include her daughter, Georgiana Horning, Aurora, Colo.; her son, Jerome Pigsley, Rapid City; two brothers, Norris Wyant, Tempe, Ariz., and LeRoy Wyant, Wall; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Pigsley in 1993.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Julie Norwood officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.

Betty J. Halla

RAPID CITY — Betty J. Halla, 82, Rapid City, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley Halla, Rapid City; two sons, Bruce Halla, Ladson, S.C., and Brian Halla, Greeley, Colo.; a daughter, Diane Halla, Rapid City; her brother, Curt Ireland, Arizona; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Ted Huffman officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills.

Alicia Provost

PINE RIDGE — Alicia Provost, 28, of Pine Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Pine Ridge. 

Alicia Provost was born Feb. 25, 1981, to Irv Provost Sr. and Serena Brown. She attended school at Red Cloud and graduated from Pine Ridge High School in 1999. After graduation, she attended college at TVI in Albuquerque, N.M., and was currently taking classes at Oglala Lakota College.

She was employed by the Oglala Sioux Tribe and has worked in the Secretary’s office, Personnel Office and Payroll Office. At the time of her death she was employed by the Oglala Sioux Lakota Housing Finance Department.

She met Vincent LeBeau in 1997 and from this union they had three beautiful children — Katelyn, Tristan and Erin.

Alicia is also survived by her parents, Irv and Serena, three brothers, Charles, Irv Jr. and John Provost, and her sister, Stephanie Provost, all of Pine Ridge; grandmothers, Zona Brown, Pine Ridge, and Vestana Two Lance, Batesland; the father of her children, Vince LeBeau, Pine Ridge; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Garfield Brown Sr.; her paternal grandmother, Winona (Bebe) Linehan; and aunties, Mona Hagen and Jo Two Lance.

First night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Billy Mills Hall. Second night will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Bill C. Bear Gym in Batesland.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Bill C. Bear Gym, with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl, the Rev. Peter Klink and Mr. Ben Conquering Bear officiating. Interment will follow at the Two Lance Family Cemetery near Batesland.

Edna M. Weaver

RAPID CITY — Edna M. Weaver, 83, Rapid City, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Edna was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Flandreau to John and Reva (Duncan) Henderson. She lived on a farm near Ward and spent the first eight grades in country school at Ward. She then attended Flandreau schools for four years where she graduated from high school.

Edna married Everett Weaver on April 29, 1946, in Elkton. The family moved to Rapid City in 1953 where she has since resided. She worked for many years as a sales clerk at South Side Drug.

She was a member of South Park United Church of Christ and the VFW Auxiliary.

Edna is survived by her husband, Everett H. Weaver of Rapid City; two sons, James E. (Mickey) Weaver of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Terry J. (Pat) Weaver of Rapid City; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Henderson of Flandreau; and three sisters, Alta Dexter and Georgina Koopman, both of Apple Valley, Minn., and Ida (Bill) Weaver of Rapid City.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Kirk Funeral Home and one hour before services.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bob Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.

A memorial has been established to Westhills Village.

Raymond R. Koskela

RAPID CITY — Raymond R. Koskela, 94, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his daughter’s home.

Survivors include his son, Ronald Koskela, Oceanside, Calif.; his daughter, Debra Brandt, Rapid City; his sister, Linda Jeffreys, Portland, Ore.; his brother, Elmer Koskela, Nikiski, Alaska; and two granddaughters.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home.

Richard L. Taylor

RAPID CITY — Richard L. Taylor, 88, Rapid City, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Pear Taylor, Rapid City; three daughters, Pamela Johnson, Piedmont, Patricia Vaughn, Rapid City, and Susan Thar, Gillette, Wyo.; his sister, Florence Hansen, Hill City; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home.

Pearl A. Kulish

RAPID CITY — Pearl A. Kulish, 101, Rapid City, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Gloria Kulish, Rapid City; two sisters, Lillian Trochynczuk, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Delores Tablonski, Avoca, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

No services are planned.

Robert Harold David

RAPID CITY — Robert Harold David, 88, Rapid City, passed from the darkness into the light Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Westhills Health Care.

Harold was born March 5, 1921, to Floyd and Edna David at home near Caney, Kan.

Harold grew up in the oil fields of Kansas and Oklahoma. He was class president and valedictorian at Cedervale High School and graduated from Wichita Business College. Harold met Lucille, the love of his life in 1939 and they were married Jan. 31, 1942.

During WWII, Harold served as a flight operations officer at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. He started his career in life insurance with Bankers Life of Nebraska and went on to join Rushmore Mutual Life in Rapid City, to where he moved his young family in 1949. He retired 37 years later as executive vice president and went on to serve an additional 10 years on the board overseeing the affairs of the company after it was acquired.

Harold was ever the devoted husband and father, a disciplined hard worker, a man of faith, and a humble and generous contributor to his church and community. He and Lucille were founding members of Canyon Lake Methodist Church.

During working years and into retirement, Harold and Lucille enjoyed traveling throughout all 50 states and to Canada, Mexico, Scandinavia, Russia, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Israel, Jordan and Australia. Harold also loved the Black Hills, and became an expert fly fisherman. He could often be seen plying the waters of Rapid Creek, where no trout was safe. Harold was an accomplished craftsman, enjoying many projects including building a beautiful home for his family.

Harold was an active member of the Cosmopolitan Club and is missed by his many friends in the Rapid City community.

His family wishes to express many thanks to the staff at Westhills Village Healthcare in whose loving care he was entrusted through more than two years of his difficult final struggle.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille (Johnson) David; two sons, Robert A. “Tony” David (Dolores), Tucson, Ariz., and Larry M. David (Tina Carter), Black Hawk; his daughter, Jan A. Hopkins (James), Rapid City; three grandchildren, Krista David Lance, Jason Gilmore and Nicole Parkhill; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzi, Maya, Lucy and Monica; his brother, Gerald “Bill” David, Independence, Kan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Diehl officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Westhills Village Healthcare Facility.
