PIERRE - South Dakota and North Dakota have joined several other states in filing a challenge to the Environmental Protection Agency's finding that greenhouse gases are great enough to threaten public health and should face restrictions.

The EPA in December issued an "endangerment" finding about carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that allowed it for the first time to make rules restricting emissions under the Clean Air Act.

Alabama, Texas and Virginia last month asked a federal appeals court to review the finding.

South Dakota, North Dakota and 10 other states on Thursday followed suit.
