The trial of a Rosebud tribal official accused of sex crimes involving minors was canceled after the Pennington County State's Attorney's office dropped the charges.
Michael J. Valandra, 50, of Rosebud was arrested last April in Rapid City. He pleaded not guilty to solicitation of a minor and attempted sexual contact with a minor. His trial was scheduled to start Wednesday.
Valandra was suspended from the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Council after it learned of the accusations.
Pennington County Deputy State's Attorney Tracey Decker said she intends to re-indict Valandra.
She said she dismissed the existing charges when she was unable to get a continuance needed to accommodate witnesses' schedules.
