RAPID CITY - South Dakota's main mountain lion hunting season is one kill away from being over.
A male lion was killed in Meade County over the weekend, bringing the season total to 44. The limit set by state wildlife officials is 45.
The season opened Jan. 1 and is scheduled to run through March or until the quota is reached.
No lions have been killed in a separate season in Custer State Park, where the limit is five.
