Federal stimulus money will fund a $2.8 million revolving loan fund for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for South Dakota schools and non-profit organizations. Completed applications must be received by April 12, 2010.
The loans can be used to install efficient lighting, heating, air conditioning, windows and insulation or using renewable energy from wind turbines, solar panels and heat-pump sources. Terms for the zero-interest loan will be up to 10 years based on a simple energy savings payback calculation. Priority will be based on the amount of capital investment per energy amount saved.
The special loan fund for elementary and high school school districts, state technical schools and non-profit groups was established under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program.
