Forget those crowded, smoky casinos with the premium parking. Starting Monday, gamblers can get their blackjack hit on their cell phones or text messaging devices. Participants at no time will be playing with real money, officials said.
The Deadwood Chamber & Visitors Bureau and the South Dakota Office of Tourism will market the blackjack game through the year, with prizes awarded monthly. Prizes will include gift certificates, clothing and weekend getaways in Deadwood.
George Milos, director of the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce, said for the past two years, Deadwood has offered snow alerts via text messages to travelers. The blackjack text game will take the interaction portion to a new level.
Melissa Bump, director of the South Dakota Office of Tourism, said it is the first time Deadwood has used a blackjack game in text marketing. Those who sign up to play the game must be 21 or older. To play, text the word PLAY to 88188 and follow the prompts. For a full explanation of rules and instructions, go to www.deadwood.com.
