SIOUX FALLS - He has survived gun shots and baseball bats, but "Mr. Bendo" was no match for a drunk driver.
The statue that some consider to be a Sioux Falls landmark in front of a muffler shop was hit by a drunk driver Wednesday night and knocked over, after standing in front of the shop for nearly half a century.
Shop owner Jerry Wallenstein says he hasn't decided what to do with the 18-foot-tall fiberglass statue, which lost most of a leg in the crash. He says he'll likely get it fixed, but he has to see how much it will cost.
More than 1,000 people have joined a Facebook group calling for the statue to be fixed.
