BELVIDERE — Helen M. Carrico, 79, Belvidere, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at her home.
Survivors include one son, David Jewett, Dwight, Ill.; one daughter, Christine Childers, Arlington Heights, Ill.; one sister, Barbara Hartman, Chicago; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

BELVIDERE — Thomas W. Carrico, 80, Belvidere, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at his home.
Survivors include one stepson, David Jewett, Dwight, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Christine Childers, Arlington Heights, Ill.; two brothers, Keith Carrico, Florence, Ore., and Otha “Buck” Carrico, Quartzsite, Ariz.; one sister, Phyllis Owens, Rapid City; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-granddaughter.

Steven Elwood Macy
LITTLETON, Colo. — Steven Elwood Macy, 48, Littleton, was called home to heaven on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.
He was born Feb. 13, 1961, in Vermillion, S.D., to Ralph and Lenette Macy. He attended school in Rapid City, S.D., graduating in 1979 from Central High School. Steven graduated from Arizona State University in 1984 with a degree in small business management. Steve was a people person with a wide range of interests. He loved camping, fishing, photography, and tennis. Survivors include his daughter, Ellie of Littleton; his mother, Lenette Macy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his sister, Janet and David Carlson of Eden Prairie, Minn.; his brother, Gary Macy of Sioux Falls; his sister, Joan and Dan Pomerenke, Sioux City, Iowa; nieces Jennifer and Al Larson, Jamie and Jonathan Colman, Jill and Brock Pitz, Julie and Jason DeLaRosa and Jessica Pomerenke; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Services were held Nov. 17, in Denver.
A family reception will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at 101 W. St. Nicholas in Tea, S.D.
Collin K. Leslie
LEMMON — Collin K. Leslie, 82, Lemmon, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Ona; two daughters, Maureen Leslie, Casa Grande, Ariz., and Colleen Kolbeck, Salem; one sister, Linda Straus, Myerstown, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home.
Services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Chapel in the funeral home, with the Rev. Web Brower officiating. Burial, with full military honors afforded by the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post, will be at Greenhill Cemetery.

Roger Lee Beckel
STURGIS — Roger Lee Beckel, 56, Sturgis, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at his residence near Sturgis.
Roger was born Nov. 14, 1953, at Austin, Minn., to Bernard and Lois (Swehla) Beckel. He graduated from high school in Austin and received his Bachelor of Science in Business from Arizona State University. He graduated from St. Thomas in Minneapolis with his Masters Degree in Business Administration.
Roger was employed for Wells Fargo, ACRO and ING as an executive loan officer.
He married Betty Holden Oct. 5, 2002, at Brooklyn Park, Minn.
In 2003, Roger and Betty purchased the Bulldog Campground near Pleasant Valley, south of Sturgis. Roger commuted from Minneapolis to Sturgis until making the Black Hills his permanent home. Roger was employed as the Chief Financial Officer for Corbon in Sturgis at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce and the Harley Owners Group.
He enjoyed motorcycling, watering his trees, his honesty and caring for other people.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Beckel, Sturgis; one daughter, Jacqueline Beckel, St. Paul, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Allison (Jeff) Brausen, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Kimberley Boudreau, Minnetonka, Minn.; two brothers, Thomas Beckel, Minneapolis, and David Beckel, Wauseca, Minn.; three sisters, Vicki (Steve) Pearson, Prior Lake, Minn., Judy (Terry) Vogel, Bowling Green, Ky., and Linda (Mitch) Dennison, Austin, Minn.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Arnold Kari officiating.
Visitation will be for two hours before services.
A memorial has been established to the local Relay for Life.

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE — Matthew R. Peterson, 30, EAFB, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, near Keystone.
He was a member of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa of Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Peterson, one daughter, Gabrielle Peterson, and one son, Terrance Peterson, all of EAFB; his parents, Roger and Cheryl Peterson, Fredrick, Md.; two sisters, Alyssa Funes, Phoenix, and Laura Kaiser, Fredrick; and his grandmother, Joyce DeCoteau, Belcourt, N.D.

HOT SPRINGS — Charles Martin “Chuck” Braunersrither, 76, Hot Springs, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at the Veterans Affairs Black Hills Health Care System.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Braunersrither, Surprise, Ariz.; eight children, Cheryl Smith, Lana Hescock, Todd Braunersrither, Annette Atwan, Chad Braunersrither, Dale Braunersrither, Gail Hendricksen and Jill Carey; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jacobson officiating.
Committal services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military honors will be provided by the South Dakota National Guard and the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guards.

Christopher E. Anspach
RAPID CITY — Christopher E. Anspach, 45, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Pratt Anspach, and two daughters, Courtney Anspach and Korahl Anspach, all of Rapid City; his parents, Alexander and Mary Ann Anspach, Ontario, Canada; and a brother, Timothy Anspach, San Diego, Calif.
Christian wake services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at the church, with the Rev. Dan Juelfs officiating.
Burial, with military honors provided by Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard, will follow at 1 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Kenneth Clyde Hanna
RAPID CITY — Kenneth Clyde Hanna, 85, Rapid City, passed away on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Ken was born Dec. 1, 1923, on the family farm to Clyde and Lucille (Hicks) Hanna. He attended one-room school through the eighth grade. Going into town to Oskaloosa High School was a big step towards maturity. Graduating from OHS, he enrolled at the University of Iowa.
WWII interrupted his schooling, when a draft board sent him back to the farm to “grow food.” At the end of the war, he returned to school. He met and married Mary Steward on Aug. 30, 1945. Living in a trailer on campus he graduated from the University in June 1949. Hired by the FDIC, he began his 43-year career in banking by examining banks. He joined Norwest Bank, and came to Rapid City. He earned his Master’s degree from Rutgers University.
In 1962, he accepted an offer from a bank in California and he and Mary moved their family of three daughters and one son to Southern California.
In 1976, he married Lois Fergusson. In 1981, he took early retirement, and they moved to his home town, Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he resumed his banking career. They spent the winter in California and the summer in Iowa.
Ken played golf until his health made it too difficult. He then resumed woodworking in earnest. He especially liked making furniture. Ken was a past member of the Elks Club and Masonic groups.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Hanna, Rapid City; three daughters, Kathleen Larsen, Santa Rosa, Calif., Cheryl Taylor, Corona, Calif., and Johnetta Davis, San Bernardino, Calif.; his step daughter, Kathleen Bley, Auburn, Wash.; one son, Scott Hanna, San Bernardino; his step son, Jim Fergusson, Anchorage, Alaska; six grandsons; two granddaughters; five stepgrandsons; two stepgranddaughters; nine great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; nine stepgreat-grandsons; and four stepgreat-granddaughters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 910 Soo San Drive, with the Rev. Kathy Monson Lutes officiating. A time of luncheon and fellowship will follow at the church. Ken’s body will be donated to the medical school at USD following services. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa, Iowa.
A memorial has been established to the Rapid City Club for Boys.

Wilbur K. Michelson
FARGO, N.D. — Wilbur K. Michelson, 85, Fargo, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, Fargo; his daughter, Linda Michelson, Rapid City, S.D.; his son, Kenneth Michelson, Fargo; his brother, Roger Michelson, Billings, Mont.; his sister, Sharon Spurrell, Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren; and one stepgrandson.

SAN FRANCISCO — Dace Anthony Garreau, 20, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, in San Francisco.
Survivors include his mother, Delphine Garreau, three brothers, Galen Garreau, Dustin Long and Tyson LeCompte, and his sister, Kristina Long, all of Rapid City; maternal grandparents, Mary Jo Garreau, Rapid City, and Romey Garreau, Eagle Butte; and paternal grandparents, Clayton and Faye Left Hand, Kenel.
He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Left Hand.

Anna M. Johnson
RAPID CITY — Anna M. Johnson, 96, Rapid City, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at her home.
Survivors include three sons, Frank Johnson, Nashwauk, Minn., Don Johnson, Gillette, Wyo., and Bill Johnson, Coloma, Wis.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bingo Johnson.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. CST Thursday, Nov. 19, at Mount Funeral Home in Platte and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Platte, with a 7 p.m. wake service.
Services will be at 10 a.m. CST Friday, Nov. 20, at the church. Burial will be at the Platte Catholic Cemetery.

STURGIS — Ralph Frank Magelky, 87, Sturgis, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his children, Bob Magelky, Pierre, Tom Magelky, Thermopolis, Wyo., Eileen Magelky, Sheridan, Wyo., Lee Magelky, Sturgis, Ed Magelky, Bentonville, Ark., and Ralphine Kruse, Coal Valley, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, with a 7 p.m. Rosary, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

James Stopfer
MITCHELL — James Stopfer, 79, Mitchell, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.
James Wieland Stopfer was born Dec. 24, 1929, at Ethan to Henry and Mary (Wieland) Stopfer. He grew up and attended school at Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Army and served three years active duty. On May 29, 1952, he married Joan Radford in Mitchell. He served in the South Dakota National Guard for 33 years until his retirement. He was a member of Company A, First Battalion, 147 Field Artillery in Mitchell.
He was employed at Randall Advertising and Flack Advertising. He served two terms with Mitchell City Council. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; two daughters, Kim Tysdal and special friend Dave of Rapid City, and Tammy Lorang and husband Kim of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Eileene Bishop of Red Oak, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, nine sisters and his parents.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. CST today at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Military graveside services will be at the American Legion Cemetery.
