A government watchdog group says South Dakota ranks eighth among states in federal earmark dollars per capita.
"Earmark" is the term for home-state projects sought by lawmakers.
The Taxpayers for Common Sense report says South Dakota received $112.21 in earmark dollars for every resident in fiscal 2010. Hawaii was tops, at $318.26, followed by North Dakota with $233.60.
The report says nine of the top 10 per-capita states, including South Dakota, were represented by members of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
