I was on council when Canyon Lake was modernized. I tried to eliminate building the feeding area because wild ducks would not use a closed in area, and geese are grazers.
Then the island was built to direct the flow of water to the dam. This would increase more open water. Nobody listened to me. I was told we need the wildlife for the retired and children and I was against progress.
This nonsense all started when a child got attacked because the parents didn't know you don't pet or feed a goose in springtime when the gander is around.
I have taken my children and grandchildren out to feed them and will continue to do so. If Pierre can stand a little doo-doo on their shoes we can, too.
P.S. The council got a raise, but the people that paid for Canyon Lake didn't get a Social Security raise. Remember this at election time.
