Nice op-ed, David. Obama was ill-advised to not attend the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain. The fall of the Iron Curtain was the most anticipated political event since WWII; when Ike asked Churchill, 'what do we do?' Churchill replied, 'we wait.' Ike asked, 'how long?' Churchill replied, 'Fifty years.' Of course the Soviet's collapsed because of their internal contradictions well prior to fifty years.
It's regretful the RCJ failed to cover the German Chancellor's historic address to congress - given the historic events, that many of us served there, and that a quarter of us have Germanic blood. But then the RCJ is too often on its own west river island.
I patrolled the border at Coberg in the winter in over whites with 3rd id infantry, people sleep safely at night with no appreciation of the ones who do their duty,im sorry the chancellor did not get addressed,I am also a rez boy
Today, Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany addressed Congress, invited to speak by President Obama. The Chancellor of Germany hasn't addressed Congress in over 50 years, and for some reason this major event isn't mentioned in the Journal. You could look it up.
Great story! I think most Americans are more than a little disappointed at the performance, or lack of, from our commander and chief. He can certainly talk the talk, but it's becoming painfully obvious that he can't walk the walk. Dodging the anniversary of the destruction of the Berlin Wall is an insult to all vets since WWII to present.

Change is on the way in 2012.
