An accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound sent a Rapid City man to the emergency room on Sunday afternoon.
Pennington County Sheriff's Deputy Kent Holland said 30-year-old Ryan Mcarton was loading an older bolt-action rifle about 3:15 p.m. Sunday when a round jammed in the chamber after he pulled the trigger.
While trying to dislodge the bullet, it went off in the chamber and injured the Mcarton’s little finger on his right hand.
He was treated for a minor injury at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Holland said.
“Basically, it wasn’t a shooting,” Holland said.
Alcohol was not involved, he said.
