CHADRON, Neb. -- A Chadron school board member remains jailed on several misdemeanor charges but has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Dave Noble was arrested Nov. 8, charged with third-degree assault, obstructing a police officer and disturbing the peace.
Court documents say Noble’s mother called police, saying he had been drinking, was becoming aggressive and had tried to hit her. Police say when they arrived, he refused to talk to them, refused to get up off a bed when they told him he was under arrest and had to be physically lifted off the bed. The incident report also says he kicked his father as officers took him out of the home, then lay down and refused to get up.
He pleaded not guilty to all of those charges Nov. 19 in Dawes County Court.
His bond was set at 10 percent of $20,000. His next court appearance will be Jan. 15.
Noble also faces a charge of third-degree domestic assault after an Aug. 26 incident, when he allegedly assaulted his wife, Renae Noble. He had been drinking before he arrived home, and when his wife attempted to get him to leave, he hit her in the face, the incident report says. Noble has pleaded not guilty to that charge. His next appearance for that case will be Jan. 8.
A financial affidavit filed with the court says Noble is unemployed and is receiving treatment for alcoholism.
He is up for re-election to the school board next November. Nebraska law says a school board vacancy can be declared when a member has more than two consecutive unexcused absences. Superintendent Sherlock Hirning said Noble has had two or three unexcused absences during his term.
