Permits to cut trees in the Black Hills National Forest cost $10 and are available at Forest Service offices, except the Hell Canyon District office, some area businesses and by mail. Checks should be payable to “USDA Forest Service” and should be mailed with a stamped return envelope to Black Hills National Forest, 1019 N. Fifth St., Custer, SD 57730. A permit is required for each tree cut.
