Flickering candles on a cool night cast a solemn glow on the faces of those who gathered Thursday to remember Marcia Rock and her three grandchildren — Thomas Rosado, 9, Dustin Rosado, 5, and Marquez Hawk Wing, 3.

The four Rapid City residents died on the night of Nov. 27 in an apartment fire. Seventeen other people were able to escape with their lives.

On Thursday night, the fire victims were remembered by 21 local residents.

"I'm happy everyone else came to celebrate his life," Annaliese Hladysz said of Thomas Rosada, who was a friend of her brother.

"I tell my brother that if he ever needs to talk to me, he can talk to me," the 12-year-old added.

In addition to the candlelight salute to the 51-year-old Rock and her grandchildren, the vigil included crosses bearing their names and photographs of the children at the site of the fire at 2114 Sixth Ave.
