Police believe one man attempted to use 15 counterfeit $20 bills this weekend at two downtown Rapid City bars.

A bartender at Sports Rock at 321 Seventh St. called police around 1:45 a.m. Saturday after a man tried to pay with three fake $20 bills, said Tarah Heupel, Rapid City police spokeswoman.

The bartender asked for the suspect's ID, he handed it over and then ran from the bar, she said.

Police believe the same man tried to use 12 counterfeit $20 bills at Dublin Square, 504 Mount Rushmore Road, a short time after, Heupel said.

Police were called to Dublin Square around 2 a.m. Saturday. The incidents are under investigation, Heupel said.

So let me get this straight here, the man handed over his ID and then ran away. That should help out in the investigation a whole bunch. Someone used a couple of counterfeit $20 bills in Spearfish last week according to at least one bank. Maybe that suspect that left his ID behind could be also placed in the Spearfish area.
