An Eagle Butte man has been sentenced to six years in prison for a domestic violence assault.

Isiah Mesteth, 23, pleaded guilty in February to assault resulting in serious injury for beating his girlfriend in October 2011 during an argument, according to a statement by the U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson's office.

Mesteth "hit and kicked her in the face and body several times" and "sexually assaulted her in a manner that caused extreme pain," according to the release.

In addition to the prison term, Mesteth was given two years of supervised released and a $100 fine.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division investigated.
