FARGO, N.D. | Federal prosecutors in North Dakota have charged four people in a conspiracy to bilk at least 20 victims from the Dakotas and elsewhere out of more than $1 million.

Sherlet Love, Mikael Gillette, Shannon O'Connor and Christina Hogarth have pleaded not guilty to several charges, including mail fraud and wire fraud.

North Dakota and South Dakota are the latest states whose residents have been victimized by a lottery scam originating in Jamaica. Jamaican lottery scams have targeted mostly elderly Americans. Authorities estimate that at least 30,000 telephone calls from Jamaica are made every day trying to defraud U.S. citizens.

Court documents show that one North Dakota woman lost more than $150,000 in the case. She was told to send the money in order to receive a $19 million cash award.
