Three people were injured Saturday when a car driven by a 17-year-old Rapid City youth plowed into a car at the intersection of Tower Road and U.S. Highway 16.

The driver was racing south on Tower Road when he peaked a hill and collided with a car making a left-hand turn, Rapid City Assistant Police Chief Karl Jegeris said Monday.

"It was estimated that he was driving between 80 and 85 miles per hour," Jegeris said.

The driver of the car, his 17-year-old passenger and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Jegeris said.

The youth will be cited for reckless driving, Jegeris said.
