Historian to speak about Wounded Knee

Jerome A. Greene, researcher and writer of Native American, American West, and Western military history, will give a presentation on the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre on Sept. 20 at Black Hills State University.

The presentation will take place at the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union Jacket Legacy Room on the Black Hills State University campus. It is free and open to the public.

Greene has written more than a dozen books on various aspects of 19th century Indian Wars, with emphasis on the Great Sioux War of 1876-77.

Greene will do readings from his recently completed manuscript about Wounded Knee and discuss various topics related to the massacre.

Greene is a 1968 history education graduate of Black Hills State University. He is being honored by the BHSU Alumni Association as the 2012 Special Achievement Alumni Award recipient during the annual Alumni Awards luncheon.

Greene received a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota and went on to a career in the National Park Service.
