Investigators continue today to sift through the burned-out home at 2114 Sixth Ave. in west Rapid City where four people died in a fire late Tuesday night.

A crew was erecting a chain-link fence to prevent access to the house by the public, Lt. Brent Long of the Rapid City Fire Department said Friday morning.

"It's more for security of the scene, and also for safety," Long said. "The structure is not real stable at this time."

Long said insurance investigators were among those at the scene. Given the multiple fatalities, such work could continue for some time, he said.

"This is probably going to go on for months, with that many fatalities," he said.
