South Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. Rick Miller received his major pins Friday in a ceremony at the George S. Mickelson Criminal Justice Center in Pierre.
Miller, 37, was recently promoted and named assistant superintendent in charge of administrative operations.
A 12-year veteran of the Highway Patrol, Miller was first stationed in Custer in 2001. He later transferred to Rapid City where he logged hours on the highway and handled a police service dog.
He has served as an administrative sergeant and lieutenant of field operations in Rapid City.
Miller's new duties will focus on advancing the Patrol's use of technology. He will also supervise the training division, human resources, budget and finance, State Radio, Fusion Center and the headquarters staff.
