Special to the Journal

The Black Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross and RC-PC Emergency Management announced Thursday the opening of an emergency shelter located at the American Red Cross Offices at 1221 North Maple Ave.

The shelter will be available to anyone the police or fire department bring in who has been stranded or without power. The American Red Cross is working with state and local authorities to meet the needs of those impacted by the blizzard. The Red Cross stresses that travel is not advised in the current weather condition and to stay where they are at if their basic necessities are being met. The Red Cross can not rescue people who become stuck traveling to the shelter.
